LAGOS – As Christians round the world prepare to commemorate the birth of Jesus Christ on Christmas Day, the Corps Marshal of the Lagos State Environmental Sanitation Corps (LAGESC) popularly known as KAI, Major Olaniyi Olatunbosun Cole (Rtd) has reiterated the resolve of the Agency to monitor Lagos environs for infractions through the holidays to maintain general environmental cleanliness in the State.
According to him, “the Christmas holidays especially for Christians and Lagos residents is a time to merry, wine and dine but we must also sue for environmentally-friendly habits like proper refuse disposal, usage of public toilets for defecation and urination, improved cleanliness in buildings and responsible usage of pedestrian bridges in the State”.
Cole assured Lagosians that operatives of the Agency stationed across the State will remain at their duty posts through the holidays and monitor for infractions on a daily basis. He further emphasized the need for Lagos residents to comply with the State’s environmental laws or risk arrest and subsequent prosecution by the courts.
The Corps Marshal in his message also read the riot act to those engaged in the negatives acts of open defecation and urination which reduces the air quality in the State, to desist or face the wrath of the law when apprehended by operatives.
Underscoring the need for traders to refrain from displaying goods for sale on the roads, lay-bys, setbacks, gutter slabs, kerbs, median, road verges, the KAI top man stated that traders compromised their safety by staying on the roads.
The retired Army Major finally encouraged Lagos residents in transit to remain safety-cautious and embrace the appropriate usage of pedestrian bridges when crossing the highways before and after the yuletide.
