LAWMA Debunks Claims Of Unpaid Compensation To Late Highway Sanitation Worker – Independent Newspaper Nigeria

The attention of the Lagos Waste Management Authority (LAWMA) has been drawn to a recent publication by the Foundation for Investigative Journalism( FIJ), alleging that the Lagos State Government has failed to fulfil its promise to compensate the family of late Mrs. Aishat Muhammed, a highway sanitation worker, who tragically lost her life in the line of duty on May 7, 2025.

LAWMA wishes to categorically state that the claim is inaccurate and does not reflect the true position of events.

Following the unfortunate incident, the Authority, through its operational partner, Highway Managers, the company that directly engaged the deceased, immediately commenced discussions with the family. After due engagement, a mutually agreed compensation arrangement was reached.

“In line with this agreement, a total sum of N4,340,000 was paid to the deceased’s son as full and final compensation. The payment covered the insurance settlement from the responsible party, burial support, and additional financial assistance, including salary support extended to the family after the incident.

“The agreed compensation was duly received, and the matter was considered concluded based on the understanding reached with the family.”
